Philip Greele was born 21 SEP 1644 in Salisbury, MA. He died 17 MAR 1717/18 in Salisbury, MA. He was the son of Andrew Greele (c1617-1697) and Mary Moyse (?-1703). His siblings were Andrew Greele (1646-?), Mary Greele (1649-?), Joseph Greele (1652-?), Benjamin Greele (1654-?), Westwood Greele (1659-?).
Philip Greele's wife was Sarah Isley (1644-1710). They were married 17 FEB 1670 in Salisbury, MA. They had six known children named John Greele (1671-?), Jonathan Greele (1672/73-?), Sarah Greele (1675/76-?), Mary Greele (1679-?), Philip Greele (1681-?), and Ruth Grele (1684-?).
Philip Greele took the oath of allegiance and fidelity before
Captain Bradbury, military commander of Salisbury, Dec. 5, 1677.
In 1690 his name is entered as Freeman. Records in the Register
of Deeds show that he bought and sold many pieces of land
in Salisbury, and that he also owned portions of small vessels
which were built there. At a division of land May 18, 1681, he
received Lot No. 37, containing twelve acres. He was surveyor
of highways in 1682, 1683, and 1684, but aside from this does
not seem to have filled town offices.
In the old cemetery at East Salisbury (near the road leading
to the beach) are the gravestones of Philip and his wife. They
are the oldest Greele gravestones in existence, and were, in
1893, in a good state of preservation, and perfectly legible.
They read as follows : —
